Fóghnan Design

Designed and hand crafted by artist Tina Fyfe in her studio on Vancouver Island, B.C.

This new Fognan Design series of leather bags and accessories reflects the artist's Scottish heritage. Each piece is individually hand made.

Tina Fyfe is a Vancouver Island artist who directs her eye on nature and organics. Having enjoyed a twenty-five year career in sculptural ceramics, Tina shifted her attention to building a little home in the woods. It was here, surrounded by the forest’s flora and fauna, that she produced the designs used in the Foghnan Design series of leather bags and accessories.

The leather bags in her Foghnan Design series are created by hand, and with the help of a 1914 Singer Patcher treadle sewing machine for the heavier leather parts of a design, as well as an industrial sewing machine for the lighter components of the bag or accessory.

This attention to utilizing early tools of the trade runs through her work; Foghnan Design tags and cards are self-produced using an antique tabletop business card press.

Approximately seventy-five percent of the leathers used in this series are sourced from a local company that supplies unused recycled leather. With a sensitivity to choices made that impact on our environment, imported materials and hardware are kept to a minimum.

With an interest in history and in the quality of handmade craftsmanship, Tina incorporates images of vintage lace into the surface designs of her leatherwork. The velvety suede undersides make for a perfect surface upon which to add the silkscreened lace images.
